Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

My Reading List at www.myreadinglist.online is operated by Anas, the maintainer of the My Reading List project. This policy explains how information is handled when you browse books, save reading lists, sign in, or connect Open Library.

Information used by the website

Why this information is used

Information is used to authenticate you, save and synchronize your library, recover pending offline changes, provide book search and recommendations, operate an optional Open Library connection, and diagnose service problems. Recommendations use subjects and languages from your reading lists to look up related books. Website cloud libraries are not published as a public profile by this application.

Cookies and browser storage

Authentication uses cookies managed by Clerk. An Open Library connection uses an HTTP-only session cookie, and legacy cloud access uses a separate HTTP-only session cookie. Local storage keeps reading lists, preferences, account-specific caches, backups made during account switches, and queued sync changes on your device.

Signing out hides the active website account's library, but does not erase its browser cache or pending changes. Clearing this site's browser data removes local copies and can permanently lose unsynced guest books. It does not delete copies already stored in the cloud or on Open Library.

Service providers and external requests

Book searches and recommendation queries are sent through the website's server to Open Library, or Internet Archive when search fallback is used. Cover images and fonts can be loaded directly from external services, which receive the technical information needed to serve those requests. These providers process information under their own policies and may process it outside your country.

Optional Open Library connection

Open Library is separate from your website account. If you choose to connect, your Open Library email and password, or Internet Archive access and secret keys, pass through this website's server to Open Library for login. The application does not save those passwords or keys in browser storage or the cloud database; it retains the resulting session in an HTTP-only cookie.

While connected, adding, moving, or removing supported books can update your Open Library shelves, and shelf changes can be imported here. Shelf visibility is governed by Open Library's settings and policies. Disconnecting stops this integration on the current browser but does not delete your Open Library account or its shelves.

Retention and your choices

Local data remains until it is removed by you, the browser, or application storage updates. Cloud libraries remain available for synchronization; removing a book leaves a deletion marker to prevent older devices from restoring it. Signing out or deleting an authentication account does not automatically erase the separate Neon library or other local copies. Service providers may retain logs and backups according to their policies.

You can use the site without a website account, remove books from your lists, disconnect Open Library, sign out, and clear this site's browser storage. For access, correction, or deletion of your website cloud data, contact anasbutthussain@gmail.com using your account email and identify the request. Account ownership must be verified before private data can be provided or deleted. Please do not send passwords, access keys, or session tokens.
